Well, here's a cool thread to do it in!
Talk about your day, chat with friends, whatever floats your boat! Just no flaming or trolling or anything. I'll kick us off. I really don't wanna go to work today. What else is new, right?

I'm trying to watch the first episode of "Ghost in the Shell" but I'm utterly baffled. The subtitles go by too quickly and there's just so much going on!
It is awfully pretty though...

Hmmmm....I think I'll just watch it with the English dubs.
It is pretty though.

In response to a theory made about myself.
I am a dub entheusiast, yes. I appreciate the hard work that the voice actors put into making the dubs, and I don't think they get half the credit that they deserve. Only recently, I think, they've been getting a bit more acclaim, but it's still a thankless job for the most part. These people put a lot of work into making things just right. They may not be precisely the same content that the Japanese version is, but you have to adapt things for each culture. Cultural references that are made in the Japanese edition sometimes don't make sense in America, so they fiddle with things a little bit, to make things a bit more enjoyable for the audience that they're focusing on. Miyazaki's works, for instance, are focused towards a Japanese audience. So some things that are referenced, have no meaning here in America, so it's fiddled with a bit to make it more understandable here in the States when it's released. Now, am I adverse to subtitles? No, not at all. I have a couple titles that are Japanese Only. Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon, Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, and Macross: Do You Remember Love?. I just prefer one over the other. Both the American VA and the Japanese Seiyuu put a lot of effort into their works. I just think that the American VA doesn't get the credit that they deserve. Okay, I've babbled on enough about that. I have Carl to help me out with the background stuff but I'm definitely going to need to watch it again. I'm still confused.

Rommie, I think that you make some great points and I agree with you on being a dub enthusiast.
I tend to enjoy the VA more than the seiyuu but I think that if I ever get around to learning Japanese, i'll try and give the japanese another go.
And in other news.... my job wanted me to come in from 4 to close today instead of 8 to close. Um, it's bad enough that I have to close the store tonight and be to work again at open tomorrow morning but now they want me to work a longer shift? I need money but not that badly. <_< K, rant over.

I haven't seen enough anime to really comment on whether dubs are better than subs. I'm sure they both have their advantages and disadvantages. ((((Pippi-poos)))) At least you're getting paid for it. Could be worse... |

I don't blame you one bit. I don't want to go to work any more than I have to. I'm getting pretty sick and tired of getting up at 5am every morning for five days a week........hell I didn't even do that when I was in school, and I've been doing it for five years already!!!

Rommie: If I had to wake up at 5 AM every morning... well, let's just say it wouldn't be pleasant. I'm definitely not a morning person and I commend you for managing to do it while still retaining a hint of sanity. Sarah: I've been told that one of the hardest lessons in life is learning to say "no." I hope you at least added a swear word to your rejection.

Sanity? What's that? You're talking to the crazy one who had the idea to build this place. ![]() I'm losing what sanity I have left day by day. But I can't afford to go anywhere else right now. I get anywhere between 30-38 hours a week at $9 an hour. I can't afford to give that up right now. Rommie

^You get $9 an hour!? I'm only making $7.50 and that's in a supervisor position! That's it, I'm calling Manpower tomorrow. And Josh, no, I didn't cause whilst I am learning that it's good for me to say no, I'm still a pansy about it. |

I've also been working there for seven years, and pretty much keep the place running. We have a higher cost of living here, probably too. Our minimum wage is $7.25 here in Oregon. Rommie

Really? Chicago has one of the highest costs of living I've ever heard of and Illinois's minimum wage is $6.50 an hour.

I hit that point in my life a few months ago, too, finally. I have a client who'd call exactly five minutes before my end-of-day with some crisis (that wasn't really a crisis) and wussy me would stay an hour late resolving the issue. Instead of appreciation, all I got was more and more of these late calls for things that required longer and longer time to resolve. It was like they were holding things until the end of the day on purpose or something. I finally starting playing the "Sorry, can't stay late. I have an appointment." card, and I think they've gotten the point.

Niko, that sounds awful! At least they seem to have gotten the point and backed off.
The sucky thing about my job is that when I don't come in early or can't work a shift, my BOSS of all people guilt-trips me about it. I mean, he's on vacation this week and when I got to work he was there doing the sidewalk sale. I said something like, "Aren't you supposed to be on vacation this week?" and he goes, "Well, when I couldn't get anyone to come in early to help with the sidewalk sale, I had to stay and do it myself." WTF!? Did I mention I get no respect at my crummy job? Also, the last ten minutes of the shift before we close, there was like 87 people and every one of them was being a jerk. |

I'm baking a piece of chicken in the oven for dinner. I'm kinda worried because I've never done this before and I don't want it to catch on fire or anything... |

Yeah, it turned out pretty good. I had to chop and dice at the finished product because I have a phobia against slimy pieces of meat but I think I consumed enough chicken to fullfill me for the rest of the night. It said one piece has 26 grams of protein so... |

Inane griping: I hate to be a scrooge about any holiday, but I feel like strangling my neighbours right now. I want to go to bed a little early, since I've had a freakin' long weekend and have to be up early for work... but they've been setting off fireworks for the last HOUR with no signs of stopping. Makes me wish the government was more serious about stopping individual sales. I don't get enough joy out of the things myself to make up for the hassle they give me in the hands of others.

And here, I wish I could set them off, without having to light the damned things myself.
With my brother in San Antonio, we're not setting any off this year. We are, however, going to watch them on TV. So we're still going to see some fireworks, just not live. And I KNOW I'm not getting too old for this, so don't even go there. Rommie

Well I happened to have a very nice time watching the Boston Pops Fireworks show over at my Grandma's. We didn't get to set them off, but we did get to watch them. My brother is an Airman Basic in the United States Air Force. So while I may not have the highest confidence is our country's government, I do have faith in our country as a whole. Rommie |
