Actual beta content! I couldn't find a section for shopping or general anime merchandise, which might be useful to announce, say, when various retailers are running sales; or else when someone (who shall remain nameless) buys an import magazine just because there's a really cool freebie and wants someone to tell her that's not a really strange thing to do. Curse you, Animedia! Curse you and your Roy Mustang pins! |

Wouldn't that be the Anime Chronicles section? It seems like the proper place. Maybe I'm just crazy. |

Yeah, I looked at that, but that seems to be more general announcements. It might be more efficient to have seperate categories for release dates / news / what's been licensed / special deals / stupid stuff we buy / whatever the mods decide. I'm all about the efficiency, you know. And the stupid stuff (as she wonders whether she has enough pencilboards to start alphabetizing them). |

I think The Anime Chronicles would be the right place for that. It's for any anime/manga-related news.
Asian Pop Culture would be good for discussing Japanese magazines, etc.I believe we were working on revising the descriptions of some of the forums to make them a little clearer.

OK, I know we decided against it, so I'll shut up, but since Katrina brought it up, I'll wave a flag one more time for some sort of "Meta-Fandom" section that would cover shopping, conventions, cosplay and other fannish activities that aren't strictly ABOUT anime, but about things we fans do to support our interest in anime. And no, Katrina, that's not a really strange thing to do. I'd do the same thing for Roy Mustang pins.
Did they actually come *with* the magazine? I'm jealous. My "Zero Sum" periodical thing comes with trading cards, but all their other freebies seem to require a Newtype-like mail-in system...

^ If people feel there is a need for a forum like that, then I'm all for it. I don't think I was around much when that decision was made last time...

Niko: OK, I know we decided against it, so I'll shut up, but since Katrina brought it up, I'll wave a flag one more time for some sort of "Meta-Fandom" section Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I know everything could go under "Anime Chronicles," but my experience (both online and RL) says that if there's not a specific place to discuss these things, the questions will be asked in all sorts of places. For example, Person A is wondering about US releases for Gundam Seed Destiny, so he asks under a review of Gundam Seed. Person B has the same question, and she figures that the question would go under "Japanese Culture" since it's currently airing only in Japan. But if there's a specific place to ask about licensing, you could gently nudge people to post in that thread. Does that make sense? And no, Katrina, that's not a really strange thing to do. I'd do the same thing for Roy Mustang pins.
Did they actually come *with* the magazine? I'm jealous. They do indeed. A lot of Japanese magazines have all kinds of goodies. I've already got the Animedia issue that had the Ed pin, and I've also gotten calendars, pencil boards, DVDs... I also have a pile of magazines where all I can do is flip through to look at the pretty pictures, but I figure that'll give me an incentive to learn Japanese. And believe me, the Roy pin is a pin of great prettiness. I'm thinking of signing one paycheck a year over to animeten.com, since they get most of my money anyway. |

I too am all for having a separate place for things like cosplay, conventions and shopping. I like the idea of the Meta-Fandom section. I realize that might constitute yet another forum for someone to moderate but I think it would be really useful, especially to newbies.

LOL regarding the AnimeTen fund.
I'll have to check that site out. Don't think I've every visited there before. (Oh, now that I think of it, I do think Pip recommended them for our useful sites list. Note to self, do something with those!)******** *HI G35GUY!* (<---He's my invitee, fyi, minna)How do you feel about the rolling smiley?

Okay, it looks as though a MetaFandom forum would be quite prudent to have. Perhaps in the same category as our Dub/Sub and Culture forum is in. Thoughts on this? And welcome to G35Guy and Granivation. Glad to see you made your way here. Rommie

Sorry, another one of my recruits so I have to give him a hard time. (wow, Niko's right, that smilie is addictive!)Also, I agree with Rommie. I think the same forum as the cultural stuff would be a good place for the Meta-Fandom forum.

First of all, here's a great big hi to all of our new members... Katrina, Granivation, and G35Guy.
Welcome to the board, folks.
Now... as for the meta-forum... sounds like we may need something, but where to put it, where to put it... We'll need to talk name and place, folks.
